Step 4 Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a work surface and knead for about five minutes.

Place the dough back in the bowl, cover it, and let it rest for twenty minutes.

This resting period makes the dough easier to roll.

Step 5 Prepare the Oven

Preheat the oven to 180°C or 375°F.

Line two or three baking trays with parchment paper.

Step 6 Roll the Dough

Lightly oil the work surface and roll the dough to about 3 millimeters thick.

Thin dough will create crisp crackers.

Step 7 Cut the Crackers

Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into rectangles or diamond shapes.

Arrange them on the prepared baking trays without overlapping.

Step 8 Add Optional Toppings

Lightly spray the crackers with water. At this stage additional seeds or spices can be sprinkled on top if desired.

Step 9 Bake

Bake the crackers for 15 to 18 minutes.

Once baked, turn the oven off and leave the trays inside for another 10 to 15 minutes. This helps the crackers become extra crisp.

Step 10 Cool

Transfer the crackers to a wire rack and allow them to cool completely before serving.

Serving Ideas

These crackers work well in many situations.

Popular serving ideas include:

  • cheese boards
  • hummus or bean dips
  • avocado spreads
  • smoked fish pâté
  • snack platters

They also pair nicely with soups or salads.

Helpful Tips

Roll the dough thin for the best crisp texture.

Do not overcrowd the baking trays so the crackers bake evenly.

If the dough scraps remain after cutting, they can be baked separately as small snack pieces.

Store the cooled crackers in an airtight container for several days.
