This hot honey bbq sauce is one of those recipes that makes you feel like you really pulled dinner together even when the day was chaos. I started making it when plain BBQ sauce just was not cutting it anymore and I wanted something with a little kick but still family friendly.

Hot Honey BBQ Sauce this sugar

It is sweet. It is sticky. It has just enough heat to keep things interesting without scaring anyone at the table. And the best part is it comes together with pantry staples and about half an hour on the stove.

Why This Hot Honey BBQ Sauce Works

This is the kind of sauce I reach for when I want big flavor without extra effort.

It starts sweet from the honey
Builds warmth from cayenne and red pepper
Has that classic BBQ tang
Works on chicken, pork, shrimp, and veggies

If you love sauces that balance sweet and spicy, this one is a keeper.

Ingredients You Will Need

Exact quantities are listed in the recipe card at the end of this post.

Here is what you will need
Ketchup
Brown sugar
Apple cider vinegar
Honey
Cayenne pepper
Red pepper flakes
Salt
Smoked paprika
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Black pepper

Nothing fancy. Just solid pantry ingredients that work together every time.

How I Make Hot Honey BBQ Sauce

Step 1 Combine Everything

I add all the ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat and whisk until everything is well mixed.

Step 2 Simmer

Once it starts to warm, I lower the heat and let it simmer for about 20 to 25 minutes. I stir occasionally and let it thicken slightly.

Step 3 Cool and Blend

After removing it from the heat, I let it cool a bit, then blend it until smooth. This step gives it that restaurant style texture.

Step 4 Rest and Store

I pour the sauce into a jar and refrigerate it. Letting it sit overnight really helps the flavors come together.

How Spicy Is This Sauce

I would call this a medium heat sauce.

If you want it milder, reduce the cayenne
If you want more heat, add extra red pepper flakes
The sweetness from the honey keeps it balanced

It has warmth, not burn.

Ways We Use This Sauce at Home

This sauce is incredibly versatile.

Brushed on grilled chicken
Slathered on ribs
Drizzled over shrimp
Tossed with roasted vegetables
Used as a dipping sauce for sandwiches

It is especially great for cookouts and easy family dinners.

Storage Tips

Store in an airtight container
Keep refrigerated
Use within 2 weeks

I like using glass jars so it is easy to pour and store.
