I made these Fairy Bread Melting Moments on a whim one afternoon, and honestly, I've never seen my kids move so fast. They're soft, buttery, and have that fun pop of colour you get from fairy bread. They look adorable on a plate, and they're so simple that the kids love helping make them.

If you like quick biscuits that feel a little special without any extra effort, these are exactly that.

Why I Keep Making These

They're quick

The dough comes together fast, and they only bake for 12 minutes.

They use basic pantry ingredients

Nothing fancy. Just the usuals plus sprinkles.

They're fun for kids

Rolling the dough and mixing sprinkles keeps little hands busy.

They look like a party snack

Perfect for birthdays, school treats, or just a fun afternoon bake.

What You Need

For the biscuits:

  • Butter
  • Icing sugar
  • Custard powder
  • Plain flour
  • 100s & 1000s sprinkles

Ingredient amounts are provided in the recipe card below.

For the filling:

  • Icing sugar
  • Butter
  • Custard powder
  • Vanilla essence
  • Pink food colouring
  • More sprinkles

How I Make Them

1. Cream the butter and sugar

I use an electric mixer until it turns pale and fluffy.

2. Add the dry ingredients

Sifted flour and custard powder go in next. Mix again.

3. Add the sprinkles

Fold them through so the colour runs through the dough.

4. Roll into small balls

Teaspoon sized works best so they stay delicate. Flatten lightly with a fork dipped in flour.

5. Bake

Twelve minutes at 180C. They'll still look pale when ready but will firm up as they cool.

6. Make the filling

Beat the icing sugar, butter, custard powder, vanilla, and pink colouring until smooth. Stir in sprinkles.

7. Sandwich them

Once the biscuits are completely cool, add a little filling to one side and gently press together.

My Best Tips

Keep them small

Teaspoon-sized dough gives you the classic melting moment texture.

Don't overbake

They should stay soft. They set as they cool.

Add sprinkles last

If you mix them too much, they'll bleed into the dough.

Chill the filling if needed

If it's warm in your kitchen, pop the bowl into the fridge for a few minutes.

How to Store Them

  • Store in an airtight container
  • Separate layers with baking paper
  • They keep well for up to 7 days
  • Perfect for lunchboxes or make-ahead treats

Description

Soft, buttery biscuits sandwiched with pink custard filling and rolled in rainbow sprinkles. These Fairy Bread Melting Moments are a fun twist on a classic Aussie favourite that kids love helping to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Biscuits:
  • 185 g butter, softened
  • ½ cup icing sugar
  • ½ cup custard powder
  • 1 cup plain flour, sifted
  • ¼ cup 100s & 1000s sprinkles
  • Filling:
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 75 g butter
  • 1 tbsp custard powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 2 drops pink food colouring
  • ¼ cup 100s & 1000s sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Cream butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the flour and custard powder. Mix until combined.
  4. Stir in the sprinkles.
  5. Roll into teaspoon-sized balls. Press each gently with a fork dipped in flour.
  6. Bake for 12 minutes, then cool completely.
  7. To make the filling, beat icing sugar, butter, custard powder, vanilla, and pink colouring until smooth.
  8. Stir in the sprinkles.
  9. Spread a little filling on one biscuit and sandwich with another.

Notes

Keep biscuit dough portions small to stay delicate. Don't overbake - they firm up while cooling. Add sprinkles at the end to avoid colour bleeding. Chill the filling if it's too soft to handle.
