If you're anything like me, you want snacks that are quick, filling, and actually keep you going on busy days. Between work, family, and everything in between, I don't have time for complicated recipes or snacks that leave me hungry an hour later. That's why I love these extra high protein snack balls.
I started making these when I wanted something homemade but didn't want to turn on the oven or spend money on protein bars that never quite lived up to the hype. These snack balls are easy, no bake, and perfect for grabbing out of the fridge when you need a little extra fuel.
What Are Extra High Protein Snack Balls
Extra high protein snack balls are small, no bake snacks made with protein rich ingredients that help keep you full longer. Unlike traditional energy balls that rely heavily on oats and sweeteners, these focus on protein first.
When I make them, I aim for at least 8 to 12 grams of protein per ball. That makes them great for busy mornings, after school snacks, or even a quick bite after a workout.
Why I Make These All the Time at Potluck Eats
They're Simple
No baking, no special equipment, and no complicated steps. If I can make them after a long day, they pass the Potluck Eats test.
They're Family Friendly
I can adjust flavors and ingredients depending on who I'm making them for.
They Actually Keep Me Full
Protein makes all the difference. One or two of these goes much further than a sugary snack.
They're Easy to Customize
Weight loss, muscle gain, dairy free. These snack balls can handle it.
Ingredients for Extra High Protein Snack Balls
I keep the ingredient list short and practical. You'll find the exact quantities in the recipe card at the end of this post.
High Protein Ingredients
- Protein powder
- Powdered peanut butter
- Nut butter
Simple Binders and Flavor
- Unsweetened almond milk
- Vanilla extract
That's it. No long list, no hard to find ingredients.
How I Make Extra High Protein Snack Balls

I start by mixing all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Then I slowly add the wet ingredients until a thick dough forms. It should be firm but easy to roll.
If the mixture feels too dry, I add a splash of almond milk. If it's too sticky, I sprinkle in a little more protein powder. This recipe is very forgiving, which I always appreciate.

Variations for Busy Families
For Muscle Gain
I use whey protein isolate and make the balls slightly larger.
For Weight Loss
I skip any added sweeteners and add chia seeds for fiber.
For Dairy Free
I use a plant based protein powder and almond butter.
You can adjust these without overthinking it. That's the beauty of simple recipes.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Adding too many oats
- Using too much honey or syrup
- Making the balls too large
- Using low quality protein powder
If protein is not the main ingredient, they're not really extra high protein snack balls.
Storage Tips
- Store in the fridge for up to 7 days
- Freeze for up to 3 months
- Keep at room temperature for 1 to 2 days
I like storing them in an airtight container so they're easy to grab and go.
